Bradley Ray topped the opening ZYN British Superbike Championship Free Practice session at Cadwell Park for McAMS Yamaha, moving ahead of Storm Stacey with just over ten minutes remaining, to hold the advantage by 0.382s.
Stacey had been at the top of the times for the majority of the session on the Bathams AJN Racing Ducati, but Ray timed it right to move ahead, with his title rival Kyle Ryde completing the top three on the leading Nitrous Coin Nitrous Competitions Racing Ducati.
Ryan Vickers was fourth for Honda Racing UK, just ahead of Joe Talbot on the leading AJN Steelstock bimota as Leon Haslam completed the top six contenders.
Jason O'Halloran had been inside the top five earlier in the session, but at the chequered flag he had got nudged to seventh place ahead of Christian Iddon and Ilya Mikhalchik.
Max Cook completed the top ten on the second AJN Steelstock bimota as he returned from Thruxton.
